That’s right, it’s #eggnog time! I make mine with eggs, cream, milk, nutmeg, and of course, a little booze! I use Bourbon and Rum, and boy is it tasty. Not to mention it’s a great excuse to share another underplayed holiday tune: Augie Rios and his brilliant “Donde Esta Santa Claus?”…enjoy!!
Sorrel Rum Punch
The holidays don’t just bring pine cones and jingle bells; luckily they also come with a whole host of seasonal drinks and tunes. While you’re unlikely to get good versions of either at the mall, Thirstyfella is here to help. This is my take on a Jamaican Christmas tradition: Sorrel Rum Punch. I made mine with dried sorrel (aka hibiscus), piloncillo, cinnamon, ginger, clove, star anise, and Atlantico Rum. And there may be no better song for this tasty drink than the Jamaican holiday classic “Christmas Feeling Ska” by The Maytals. Enjoy!
Hot Buttered Rum
I once found myself in #Chicago on a night so cold and damp I can still feel it in my bones, and when I ducked into a bar just to get out of the wind, the bartender prescribed a hot buttered rum. It did the trick, and on the jukebox I found one of my faves: “Mongoloid” by Devo. Tonight, I made mine with Mexican Piloncillo sugar, a little butter, and some Bones Rum that my mom gave me from a trip she took to the islands. Here’s a link to that brilliant song, recorded in Germany in the ’70s by Brian Eno.
